Physics Flashcards
Distinguish between distance and displacement?
Distance: Actual path length (total distance covered)
Displacement: Distance from start to finish (a straight-line measurement with a size and direction)
What types of measurements are distance and displacement?
Scalar: distance measurement (no direction, only size)
Vector: displacement measurement (size and direction)
What is stopping distance, and what is it made of?
Total time it takes from reaction time to complete stop.
Combination of the reaction distance and braking distance.
What affects reaction distance?
Excessive speed - Longer
Driver tiredness - Longer
Alcohol/drugs - Longer
Rain - Maybe (visibility)
Not concentrating - Longer
Fog - Longer
What affects the braking distance?
Icy Road - Longer (no grip)
Worn tyres - Longer
Rain - Longer
What is instantaneous speed?
Speed at each moment of the trip (speedometer gives instantaneous speed in km/h)
What does a speed value indicate?
How far an object moves in a given time
How to calculate acceleration?
a = change in velocity/time taken
(final velocity-initial velocity/time)
