Physics Flashcards
Define ‘contact forces’
A force that results from any two objects making contact with each other.
Define ‘non-contact forces’
A force that acts on an object without physically being in contact with it.
State the common forces.
Elastic, support, gravity, friction, electrostatic, magnetic, buoyancy.
Define ‘net force’
The sum of all of the forces acting on an object.
Define ‘balanced forces’
When two forces are the same strength but act in opposite direction.
Mass vs Weight
Mass is how much matter an object contains. Weight is a measurement of the gravitational force on an object.

Distance =
Time x Velocity.
Time =
Distance / Velocity.
Velocity =
Distance / Time.
Define ‘work’
Energy transferred to or from an object via the application of force along a displacement.
What is the measurement of force?
Newtons (N)
What is the force of gravity?
9.8 (sometimes can be rounded to 10)
What is the equation for force weight?
Mass x Gravity.
