Physics Flashcards
What is Electricity?
Electricity is a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged particles such as electrons, protons and neutrons
What is static electricity?
Static electricity is the build-up of electric charge on a surface
What is current electricity?
Current electricity is when electrons move along a wire carrying energy that is transformed into other forms of energy
What is a conductor?
A conductor means that an electric current will pass easily through them.
An example is copper because it has very low resistance and almost no energy is lost from it
What is current
Current is formed whenever charge flows from one sport to another
What is voltage
voltage is a measure of the amount of energy in a current
What is Ohm’s Law
Ohm’s Law states the relationship between electric current and potential difference
What are the formulas for Ohm’s Law
V = IR
I = V/R
R = V/I
What are the factors that affect the resistance in a wire
- type of material that the wire is made from
- length of the wire
- thickness of the wire
Complete the following generalised statements;
In a series circuit voltage is ______________and current stays _________
In a parallel circuit voltage stays __________and current is___________________________
In a series circuit voltage is split across components and current stays the same
In a parallel circuit voltage stays the same and current is split between different branches with components
