Physics Flashcards
conservation of energy
energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can be transformed from one form into another but the total amount of energy is always the same
conservation of momentum
in the absence of external forces, the momentum of a system is conserved; it never changes
force
any push or pull on an object
Newton’s First Law of Motion
every object at rest will remain at rest, and any object in motion will remain in motion in a straight line at a constant speed unless it is acted upon by an outside force that changes that state
Newton’s Second Law of Motion
the acceleration produced by a force on an object is directly proportional to size of the force, is in the same direction as the force, and is inversely proportional to the mass of the object
