Define Alignment.
Correct placement of body parts in relation to eachother.
How can a Dancer improve Alignment?
Perform and hold a releve for 30 seconds, think, tall and shoulders back.
Define Balance.
A steady or held position achieved by an even distribution of weight.
How can a Dancer improve Balance?
Hold a steady plié, 4 counts, a rise, 4 counts, repeat 8 times.
Define Control.
The ability to sharer and stop movement, change directions and hold a shape efficiently.
How can a Dancer improve Control?
Exercises that work the core e.g. plank/sit ups.
Define Co-Ordination.
The effective combination of body parts.
How can a Dancer improve Co-Ordination?
Using accumulation of different moves or gestures such as arms to stretch.
Define Extension.
Lengthening one or more muscles or limbs.
How can a Dancer improve Extension?
Practice leg holds to the front, side and back, hold for 30 seconds. Be sure to point toes.
Define Flexibility.
The range of movement in the joints [involving muscles, tendons and ligaments]
How can a Dancer improve Flexibility?
To improve leg’s flexibility - hold a straddle positions, stretch on each side, repeat twice and often.
Define Isolation.
An independent movement of part of the body.
How can a Dancer improve their Isolation?
Isolate each part of your body when warming up, focus on each individual body part.
Define Mobility.
The range of movement in a joint; the ability to move fluently from action to action.
How can a Dancer improve their Mobility?
Rotate your ankle clockwise and anti-clockwise for 8 counts, on each ankle. Repeat for other joints.
Define Posture.
The way the body is held.
How can a Dancer in prove Posture?
Perform a ballet plié on a bar, think tall and shoulders back.
Define Stamina.
Ability to maintain physical and mental energy over periods of time.
How can a Dancer improve Stamina?
Long distrance running, increas the distance over time.
Define Strength.
Muscular powder.
How can a Dancer improve Strength?
Weight lifting exercises.
