Physical Science Flashcards
Conduction
Transfer of heat through solid matter or form surface to surface
Convection
Transfer of heat through a gas or a liquid by current movements
Radiation
Electromagnetic waves which directly transport heat
Physical property
Something you can observe with your 5 senses (doesn’t change chemical makeup)
physical change
A change in matter in which the type of matter stays the same
Chemical change
When 2 substances combine to form a new substance
Chemical property
Porperties that are observable only during a chemical reaction
Speed
Distance divided by time
Friction
A contact force that resists the movement of one surface past another surface
Newton’s 1st Law
When an object is in motion, it stays in motion. When an object is at rest, it stays at rest. This is called inertia
Newton’s 2nd Law
When two forces on an object are balanced, the object doesn’t move. When the forces are unbalanced, the object moves
Newton’s 3rd Law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
