Modulation
A way of varying the voltage of this charge moving across the cable
Line coding
When modulation is used for computer networks. It allows devices on either end of a link to understand that an electrical charge in a certain state is a zero and the other state is a one.
Twisted pair cable
The most common type of cabling used for connecting computer devices. Copper wires that are twisted together
Duplex communication
The concept that info flows in both directions across a cable
Simplex communication
When info flows one day across a cable
Full duplex
When both devices can communicate with each other at the same time
Half duplex
Duo communication is possible but one at a time
Activity light
A led light that flash when data is actively transmitted across a cable
Link light
A led light that flash when a cable is properly connected to 2 devices that are both on
Patch panel
A device containing many network ports but does no other work. Just a “link box” aka container of ports.
