What are you checking the lips for?
The lips should be moist, pink, smooth, and symmetric. The buccal mucosa is inspected for color and lesions.
What are you checking the tongue for?
The tongue should be checked for texture, color, and lesions. A thin white coat is a normal finding. Assess the superficial veins on the undersurface of the tongue assess for location, size, color, and pain.
What are the gums assessed for?
inflammation, bleeding, retraction, and discoloration. The hard palate is examined for color and shape.
What are the four quadrants of the abdomen
right upper, right lower, left upper, left lower.
How do you assess the abdomen?
inspection, auscultation, percussion and palpation
Rectal inspection and palpation
final part of the exam. Check for fistulas, fissures, rectal prolapse, polyps, and internal hemorrhoids.
