Physical and Chemical Properties Flashcards
What 2 properties do all substances have?
Physical and chemical properties.
What do chemical and physical properties depend on?
Temperature and pressure.
At room temperature, what state is water in and what is the density?
Water is in a liquid state with a density of 1.00g/ml
What is a physical property?
A characteristic that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the substance.
What is an example of a physical property?
Mass, color, taste, state of matter, density
What is a chemical property?
A characteristic that can be observed or measured with a change in the identity of the substance.
What are examples of a chemical property?
flammability, reacts with acids, rust, reacts with oxygen.
What are physical changes?
A physical change is when matter changes its appearance but not its composition.
What are some examples of a physical change?
Cutting, boiling, dissolving, breaking, tearing.
When gas turns to liquid?
Condensation .
When liquid turns to gas?
Vaporization.
When gas turns into a solid?
Deposition.
When solid turns into gas?
Sublimation.
When solid turns to liquid?
Melting.
When liquid turns to solid?
Freezing.
