Physical and Chemical Properties Flashcards
Chapter 1.3
Chemical Change
A change in matter that produces one or more new substances
Extensive Property
A property that depends on the amount of matter in a sample
Intensive Property
A property that depends on the type of matter in a sample, not the amount of matter
Examples of Physical Properties
Viscosity, conductivity, malleability, hardness, melting point, boiling point, and density
Example of Chemical Properties
Flammability, reactivity with water/oxygen/acid/base
Example of Chemical Change
Combustion, electrolysis, oxidation, tarnishing
Example of Physical Change
Melting, freezing, vaporization, condensation, sublimation
Hazard Diamond
A system for labeling how hazardous a substance is
Examples of Extensive Properties
Volume, and Mass
Examples of Intensive Properties
Temperature, Pressure, and Density
