What are the US Physical Activity Guidelines and Healthy People 2020 physical activity
recommendations for adults and for children?

A

Adults: 30 minutes a day 5 days a week moderate to vigorous intensity
children: 60 minutes 5 days a week, moderate to vigorous activity

Q

Differentiate between acute exercise and chronic exercise and between aerobic exercise and
resistance exercise.

A

Acute: short period of time (a one time thing: going to the gym once)
chronic: over longer periods of time (going to the gym every day)
aerobic: endurance and cardiovascular(all forms of exercises are aerobic since you always are need of oxygen to function)
anaerobic: less oxygen available in body, harder to develop energy
resistance: moving weight that strains muscle

Q

Measuring the intensity of physical activity poses one of the greatest challenges for surveillance and
intervention studies. How are light, moderate, and vigorous intensity activities typically defined (in
METs)? What is a MET?

A

Met is the metabolic equivilent of a task, they are defined in # MET. for example 1 Met is being at rest and sitting
2 METS is lightly walking
3 METS is moderate activity
4 METS is vigorous activity

Q

What were the general findings from the London conductor and bus driver epidemiological studies?

A

those with professions which include alot of mobility such as train conductors who move around alot, tend to have a longer life-span and overall better health

Q

. More recently, experts are concerned about a troubling human behavior that was not captured in the
original epidemiological studies of physical activity and exercise. What is this behavior?

A

sedentary behavior, which is a direct result of technological advancements, office jobs, etc/…

Q

What is the nature of the relationship between sitting, cardiorespiratory fitness, and moderate-to vigorous physical activity with the relative risk for all-cause mortality?

A

as sitting increases CR fitness decreases MTV physical activity decreases, and risk for all -cause mortality increases
