-all children should engage in moderate to vigorous intensity activity for at least 60 minutes every day
what are the two types of exercise children are advised to take part in and why?
-aerobic as it increases heart rate which decreases risk of obesity e.g. swimming
-weight bearing as it strengthens bones e.g. running
why should time be spent doing exercise rather than sitting don for children?
-reduce the time spent sitting with some activity as it will help develop healthy bones and weight
why is exercise good for children to control their body weight?
-being active and taking regular exercise increases energy output which helps maintain a healthy weight
-this can improve their self confidence by improving their social skills, develop friendships and help develop their gross motor skills
-physical activity helps to reduce the accumulation of unused calories as stored fats as stops the risk of weight gain
why is exercise good for children to improve their cardiac health?
-being active reduces the risk of heart disease as it helps improve the balance between HDL and LDL cholesterol and can reduce blood pressure
-the heart becomes stronger and more efficient which helps ward off disease in later life and exercise also helps the flexibility of blood vessel walls
why is exercise important in children to improve their mental health?
-helps deal with anxiety and stress it can also help with anger management and reduce the risk of stress, anxiety and depression by releasing mood boosting endorphins
-children who part take in sports with others help to develop their self worth and confidence as it enhances their emotional well being and self esteem
why does exercise in children help strengthen their bones and muscle?
-physical activity that use body weight or move against resistance strengthen muscle and bone e.g. skipping and tennis

-physical activity improves concentration and thinking skills, coordination and balance
-children who are in a class or team help to build their social skills and build confidence to interact with others, the child has a sense of belonging and have new opportunities to meet and make friends
how much exercise should adults do per week and why is it important to do so?
-adults should aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week
-exercise will help reduce the risk of obesity, heart disease and a stroke
-the exercise should be spread evenly across 4 to 5 days or everyday
what types of exercise should adults do?
-strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups should be performed at least 2 times per week e.g. Pilates
-weekly targets can be achieved with several short sessions of very vigorous intensity activity or a mix of moderate and vigorous activities

-physical activity helps to strengthen the heart muscle, improve circulation and lower blood pressure and it improves blood lipid profile by increasing HDL cholesterol levels
why does exercise help lower the risk of type 2 diabetes in adults?
-physical activity helps to improve the effectiveness of insulin which lead to improved control of blood glucose levels
-it also improves insulin sensitivity which is the ability of fat cells to respond to insulin

-adults who are active have a reduced risk of colon and breast cancer as it reduces inflammation
