Physical Flashcards
Atmosphere
The layer of air around the earth
Climate
The average weather conditions of a place over a long period of time.
Sea
Large bodies of water into which river flows
Forest
An are covered in trees
Desert
Dry barren ares in which very little can survive
Rivers
Natural features which take rain water from the the land to sea
Weathering
A process where by rocks on the earths surface are broken down into smaller pieces
Deposition
When pieces of rock carried by rivers are dropped
Landforms
Features on the landscape formed by the action of rivers, volcanoes, ice and the sea
Grassland
The type of vegetation found between forests and deserts
Flooding
A physical hazard, a result of rivers over flowing their banks and causing destruction
Rain
Moisture in the form of droplets which falls through the atmosphere onto the earths surface
Earthquakes
A physical hazard resulting from earths movements which is caused by two plates overlapping
Temperature
A measure of how hot or cold it is
Vegetation
Different types of plant life growing on the earths surface
River basin
An area drained by a river
Erosion
The wearing away of land due to action of rivers, waves, wind and ice
Soil
A mixture of rock pieces, air water and the remains of plant and animal life forming the surface layer of the earth in which plant life grows
Volcanoes
A cone shaped mountain formed as a result of molten material from under the earths crust being erupted onto the surface ( physical hazard )
Habitat
The environment in which animals birds and vegetation live
