Q

How does a hydra circulate

A

The products of digestion are distributed by diffusion from cell to cell

Q

What is elimination in Cnidaria

A

Undigested wastes are eliminated from vacuoles into the GVC and out through the moutg

Q

What happens during respiration

A

02 enters the cells by diffusion and is used by the cell for cellular respiration then carbon dioxide a waste product of cellular respiration leaves the cells by diffusion into surrounding water

Q

What happens in excretion

A

Nitrogenous wastes leave the cells by diffusion into the GVC or to outside

Q

What makes up the hydras nervous system

A

Have a nerve net that runs through the mesoglea. Hydra has sensory cells that are sensitive to touch, light and chemical changes

Q

What type of skeleton do hydra have

A

A hydrostatic skeleton, this means the gvc fills with water, keeping them upright . The combination of the water and muscle contractions allows them to move

Q

What type of asexual reproduction does hydra go through?

A

Budding: a bud forms by mitosis on the side of the hydra and then breaks off. Regeneration: hydra is able to re grow missing parts by mitosis

Q

How does sexual reproduction occur in hydras

A

Ovaries grow on the side by the bottom and testes grow on the side by the tentacles, the zygote goes through cell division(mitosis) after fertilization occurs and will become an embryo which goes through gastrulation. It will form a collared larva called planula

Q

What happens in embryological development?

A

Two tissue layers form, meaning they are diploblasts. The two tissue layers are ectoderm and endoderm with mesoglea

16
Q

What type of nervous system do cnidaria have

A

Have a decentralize nervous system, or nerve net which allows for some coordinated movement

17
Q

Explain the first step of digestion in Cnidaria

A

Flagella, line the endoderm or gastrodermal layer. Flagella moves back and forth to create a current in the GVC.

18
Q

Explain the second step of digestion in Cnidaria

A

Gastrodermis cells secrete digestive enzymes to break down the food (extra cellular digestion) into smaller particles.

19
Q

What does GVC stand for

A

Gastrovascular cavity

20
Q

What is gastrulation

A

Embryo goes through gastrulation it will form a collared larva called a planula
