Phsics Flashcards
What does translucent mean?
You can see through something but it scatters the light
What does opaque mean?
You can’t see through it and it blocks the light
What does luminous mean?
A source of light
What does non-luminous mean?
It’s not a source of light
What does absorb mean?
Takes in light that lands on it
What does reflect mean?
Light bounces off
What does emit mean?
It gives something out
What does transmit mean?
A material that light can travel through
Give two examples of contact forces
Friction and surface touch
Give 3 examples of non-contact forces
Air resistance, gravity and water resistance
What is Hooke’s law?
As the force doubles the extension on a spring also doubles
What does transparent mean?
You can see the light through it and you can see the other side
What does specular reflection mean!
Incoming waves at one angle. Reflected waves at the same angle
What does diffuse scattering mean?
Reflected waves at many different angles
What does refraction mean?
A change in direction because of a change in speed
What is the process of refraction?
If the light is travelling at a constant speed and it changes speed it will change direction
What is the law of reflection?
Angle of incidence = angle of reflection
What is newtons 3rd law?
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
What are interaction pairs?
Interaction pairs a two forces that react in the opposite direction but acting on the same object
How do you increase friction?
Use air resistance, water resistance, drag force etc
How do you decrease friction?
You make the object more streamlined
