Phrases Flashcards

1
Q

Landing assured

A

A landing is assured if in the judgment of the commander it could be completed in the event of any forecast deterioration in the weather and plausible single failures of ground and or airborne facilities

Q

Approach Ban

A

An instrument approach may be commenced regardless of the reported RVR/VIS.

If the reported RVR/VIS is less than the applicable minimum the approach shall not be continued :

  1. Below 1000ft AAL or
  2. Into the final approach (FAF) segment in the case where MDA/H is more than 1000ft AAL

Q

Ground speed mini

A

GS mini takes advantage if the A/C inertia when the wind varies during the approach in order to provide an adequate IAS target at which the energy of the A/C is maintained above a minimum level ensuring aerodynamic margins versus stall

Q

FPV

A

Represents lateral and vertical trajectory of the A/C relative to the ground.
FPV is computed from IRS data and may contain inertial errors

Q

Alert height

A

Specified radio height based on the characteristics of the aircraft and its fail operational landing system.

  • If a failure occurred above the AH in one of the required redundant operational systems in the aircraft approach would be discontinued and a GA executed unless reversion to a hight DH is possible.
  • if a failure in one of the required redundant operational systems occurred below AH it would be ignored and the approach continued to land.

6
Q

Fail operational

A

A flight control system is fail operational if in the event of a failure below AH the approach flare and landing can be completed automatically.
In the event of such failure the autoland system will operate as a fail passive system

7
Q

Fail passive

A

A flight control system is fail passive if in the event of a failure below AH there is no significant out of trim condition or deviation from the flight path and attitude but the landing cannot be completed automatically.
Pilot assumes control of the aéroplane after the failure.

11
Q

Maximum number of attempted approaches

A

No more than 2 successive approaches may be flown where there has been a go around due to weather conditions unless there has been a significant improvement to the weather or state of emergency exists.

In exceptional circumstances a 3rd approach may be flown when a go around has been carried out for non weather related reasons providing the commander is satisfied that landing is assured

Q

Regulatory authority of the commander

A

Operator shall take all reasonable measures to ensure that all persons carried in the A/C Obey all lawful commands issued by the commander for the purpose of securing the safety of the aircraft and of persons/cargo carried therein

Q

CONTROLLING RVR

A

Touchdown RVR is always controlling for all instrument approach with MDA, DA, DH.

If reported and relevant midpoint and stop end RVR are also controlling

Roll out guidance : as per chart / 75m / 75m
No rollout guidance : as per chart / 125m /75m

Q

Relevant RVR

A

Takeoff : RVR for that part of the runway used to accelerate to V1 followed by a rejected takeoff and deceleration down to about 60kt

Landing : RVR for that part of the runway used during high speed phase of landing run down to about 60kt

16
Q

Severe ice accretion

A

Ice accumulation on the airframe reaches approximately 5mm of thickness or more

17
Q

Thin hoarfrost

A

White crystalline deposit which usually develops uniformly on exposed surfaces on cold and cloudness nights.

Surface features can be distinguished beneath it.

18
Q

Contaminated runways

A

A runway is contaminated when a significant portion of its surface is covered with :

  • a layer of fluid contaminant not considered as thin
  • a hard contaminant

Significant portion = more than 25% of 1/3 of the runway surface area

19
Q

Original Certificates to be carried

A

Certificate of airworthiness
Certificate of registration
Radio licence

20
Q

Low fuel state

A

The commander shall advise ATC of a minimum fuel state by declaring “Minimum Fuel” when having committed to land at an aérodrome the pilot calculates that any change in the existing clearance to that aérodrome may result in landing with less than planned final reserve fuel

21
Q

Fuel emergency

A

Commander shall declare a situation of fuel emergency by broadcasting mayday mayday mayday fuel when the calculated usable fuel predicted to be available upon landing at the nearest aérodrome is less then the planned final reserve fuel.

22
Q

Stable approach criteria

A
23
Q

LVP

A

Low visibility procedures

Airport based operations initiated at the latest by ceiling < 200ft and RVR < 600m

24
Q

LVO

A

Low visibility operations are airline based operations
