Rule Out
Meaning: Exclude something as a possibility
Synonyms: Exclude, eliminate, reject, dismiss, disregard
Examples:
Can we rule out the possibility of future terrorist attacks?
I would not rule out a full boycott of the Olympics
A blood test will help your doctor rule out allergy
To Get Along With
Meaning: Be friendly. If two or more people get along, they like each other and are friendly to each other
Examples:
I don’t get along with my brother
Those two just don’t get along
My boss and I get along very well
Fed Up
Meaning: bored or annoyed
Examples:
She was fed up with their complaints
I’m fed up with your behaviour
I resigned because I was fed up
Step Up
Meaning: Increase the amount, speed or intensity of something
Examples:
Police decided to step up security plans for the match
Sort of
Meaning: To some extent; in some way or other.
Examples:
Do you see what I mean?’ ‘Sort of,’ answered Jean cautiously
I’m going on my own with no clue about who is going to be there, which is sort of scary.
