Photosynthesis, Respirations And ATP Flashcards
What properties does ATP have that makes it a good energy source?
Stores/releases small amount of energy each time, energy isn’t wasted.
Small and soluble so easily transported around cell.
Easily broken down and energy easily released.
Transfer energy to another molecule by transferring phosphate group.
Can’t get our of cell so always immediate supply of energy.
What’s a metabolic pathway?
Series of controlled reactions by enzymes (respiration and photosynthesis)
What’s phosphorylation?
Adding phosphate to a molecule ( ADP to ATP)
What’s photophosphorylation?
Adding phosphate to a mocule using light
What’s photolysis?
Splitting of a molecule using light energy
What’s hydrolysis?
Splitting of a molecule using water
What’s decarboxylation?
Removal of co2 from a molecule
What’s dehydrogenation?
Removal of hydrogen from a molecule.
What’s a redox reaction?
Reaction where reduction and oxidation state occurs
What’s a coenzyme?
Molecule that aids the function of an enzyme.
What does a coenzyme do?
Transfers a chemical group from one molecule to another.
Which coenzyme is used in photosynthesis?
NADP
What does NADP do in photosynthesis?
Transfer hydrogen from one molecule to another- reduces and oxidises molecules.
What coenzymes are used in respiration?
NAD, FAD and coenzyme A
What do NAD and FAD do as coenzymes in respiration?
Transfer hydrogen from one molecule to another, reduces and oxidises molecules
