Photosynthesis- Limiting Factors Flashcards
How is temperature a limiting factor?
Increase temp means enzymes work at faster rate
Increases rate of photosynthesis
Eventually, enzyme denature so temp no longer limiting factor
Rate falls
How is light limiting factor?
As light increases so does photosynthesis
Limiting because rate not as fast as not enough light
How is co2 limiting factor?
Increase co2 increases photosynthesis
CO2 is limiting factor
Graph levels off so co2 no longer limiting
Describe how a grower can enhance levels of plant growth in a greenhouse.
For light, use artificial light during winter
For temp, use a heater
What is the rp for photosynthesis.
Take boiling tube and place away from light source
Fill with sodium hydrogen carbonate to release co2
Place pondweed in tube
Leave for couple mins
Count bubbles of gas produced with stopwatch in 1 min
Repeat and calculate mean
Repeat at different distances
Why does a student wait before taking a reading?
To allow plant to adjust or give time for bubble time to change
Suggest a reason why students did not record data for distances closer than 20cm.
Close lamp warms up water
Temperature affects rate of photosynthesis
Why are the same amount of bubbles produced at different distances.
Photosynthesis occurs at max rate
Because light intensity no longer limiting factor
Another factor is limiting
Explain how an increase in temperature would affect the results of this investigation.
Bubbles of gas produce faster
As enzyme works faster
