Photosynthesis + cellular respiration Flashcards
Photosynthesis
Process by which plants obtain energy from sunlight to make their own organic compounds (glucose) which is used as energy.
Photosynthesis occurs
- Chloroplast - thylakoid (light dependent), stroma (light independent).
- During the day (when oxygen is taken in).
Photosynthesis chemical equation
6CO2 + 6H2O > C6H12O6 + 6O2
Photosynthesis word equation
Carbon dioxide + water > glucose + oxygen.
Photosynthesis inputs/reactants
6CO2 + 6H2O
Carbon dioxide + water
Photosynthesis outputs/products
C6H12O6 + 6O2
Glucose + oxygen
Cellular respiration occurs
Occurs all the time but at night oxygen intake is more than is going out.
Aerobic respiration
-Requires oxygen
- Occurs in mitochondria
- Efficient = 36 ATP per 1 glucose molecule.
Aerobic respiration chemical equation (swapped from photosynthesis)
C6H12O6 + 6O2 > 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
Aerobic respiration word equation
Glucose + oxygen > carbon dioxide + water + energy
Aerobic respiration inputs/reactants
C6H12O6 + 6O2
Glucose + oxygen
Aerobic respiration outputs/products
6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
Carbon dioxide, water, energy
Anaerobic respiration
- Doesn’t require oxygen
- Occurs in cytosol
- Not efficient = 2 ATP per 1 glucose molecule
Anaerobic equation (yeast)
Glucose > alcohol + carbon dioxide
Anaerobic equation (humans)
Glucose > lactic acid.
