Cells Flashcards
Prokaryotic
- No nucleus
- Small + simple
- Single/uni cellular
- No organelles
- eg. bacteria/archaea.
Prokaryotic + eukaryotic (both).
- Have DNA
- Have cell membrane
- Have ribosomes
Eukaryotic
- Have nucleus
- Can be multi or single/uni cellular
- Have organelles
- eg. funghi, plants, animals, humans.
Plant cells
- Larger
- Fixed shape
- Has cell wall
- Has chloroplast
- Has large permanent vacuole
Animal cells
- Smaller
- Circular/irregular in shape
- No cell wall, chloroplast, or large permanent vacuole.
Organelle
A specialised cell part that has a specific function + are membrane bound.
Nucleus
Contains DNA + is in the middle of the cell.
Cell/plasma membrane
Creates a barrier for cells + controls what goes in and out.
Cell wall
Provides structure + protection.
Mitochondria
Powerhouse of the cell/provides fuel (produces ATP/energy for the cell).
Chloroplast
Responsible for photosynthesis.
Ribosome
Makes up proteins.
Smooth ER
Involved in the making of lipids (fat organisms) and hormones.
Rough ER
Transports proteins (ribosomes attached which makes proteins which gets transported by ER).
Golgi apparatus
Packs proteins for export.
