photosynthesis & Cellular Resipiration Flashcards
Chlorophyll
a green pigment found in chloroplasts. It captures energy from sunlight
Photosynthesis
plants use energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make sugars
Cellular respiration
the process of breaking down food to produce ATP or adenosine triphosphate
Matter
anything that has mass and takes up space
Energy
the ability to do work
Law of conservation of energy
energy cannot be created or destroyed
Law of conservation of mass
mass cannot be created or destroyed
Energy pyramid
a tool that can be used to trace the flow of energy through an ecosystem. Each step of the pyramid, energy is ost to the environment and fewer organisms can be supported
Water cycle
the movement of water between the oceans, atmosphere, land, and living things
Nitrogen Cycle
the movement of nitrogen between the environment and living things
Carbon cycle
Carbon moves through organisms and between organisms and the physical environment
