Q

leaf adaptations for photosynthesis (7)

A
  • waxy cuticle - water loss prevented but light travels through
  • gas exchange in spongy mesophyll - quicker in air
  • guard cels control transpiration
  • phloem transports glucose + xylem brings water from roots
  • thin - short diffusion pathway
  • palisade cells near top surface to maximise light exposure + contain chloroplasts
  • big SA:V for max light exposure

Q

6 mark answer for how LIR occurs

A
  • CO2 combines with RuBP in a reaction catalysed bu Rubisco
  • producing 2 molecules of glycerate-3, phosphate
  • glycerate-3, phosphate is reduced to triose phosphate, using NADP and ATP
  • 1 triose phosphate converted to other organic substances
  • 1 converted back into RuBP using ATP
