Photosynthesis Flashcards
What are the reactants of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide and water
What are the products of photosynthesis?
Glucose and oxygen
What else is required for photosynthesis?
Light energy
What is light energy absorbed by?
Chlorophyll, a green substance
Where is chlorophyll found?
In chloroplasts in some plant cells and algae
What is light energy used for?
Converting carbon dioxide and water into sugar
What is the by-product of photosynthesis?
Oxygen
Where does the carbon dioxide come from?
Air
Where does the water come from?
The soil
What 3 things can the rate of photosynthesis be limited by?
Shortage of light, low temperature, shortage of carbon dioxide
What’s a limiting factor?
One that stops photosynthesis from happening any faster
What may some glucose be converted into? Why?
Insoluble starch, for storage
What is some of the glucose made in photosynthesis used in?
Respiration
Give 3 other ways that glucose can be used
To produce fat or oil for storage, produce cellulose, produce proteins
Why is fat or oil produced?
For storage
