Photosynthesis Flashcards
We all have energy to do certain tasks. Where does our energy come from?
From our food
We find ourselves in food chains. What is the food chain?
Shows the flow of energy from one organism to another in an ecosystem.
Where do all food chains begin?
A plant
What do the arrows represent?
The flow of energy
Where does the plants get it energy from?
The sun
Name the process where by plants make their own food.
Photosynthesis
Photo means light. Synthesis means to make. What does the word photosynthesis mean?
Using light to make food
Write down to words that start with photo and what it means
Photo booth - small room where people have their photograph taken by putting money in a slot
Photocopies - photographic copy of paper produced with a special machine and light
What does a plant required to produce during photosynthesis and where do all these things come from? (5x2)
- Carbon dioxide, atmosphere
- Oxygen, atmosphere RESULT
- Energy, sun
- Water, soil
- Glucose, food (plants and animals) RESULT
What happens during photosynthesis?
A plant uses energy from the sun, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, water from the soil to produce glucose as a food source and oxygen.
How can we determine if photosynthesis indeed to place?
- Amount of carbon dioxide and water becomes less.
- Amount of glucose and oxygen becomes more.
Why is glucose not stored inside a plant?
To not lower the water potential inside cell (cause much water to enter cell, and lead to cell death.)
Why should a plant be destarched before photosynthesis investigation?
To make sure that any starch present after the investigation was formed during the investigation.
How is a plant de starched?
Keep planned in a dark cupboard for 2 days
