Leafs Flashcards
Explain the difference between chlorophyll and chloroplast.
- chlorophyll is the pigment that gives leaves the green color.
- Chloroplast is the cell organelle found inside photosynthesis plant tissue.
Why are the roots of a plant not green but the leaves are?
The roots never get sunlight, and cannot photosynthesize, and therefore will not contain the pigment chlorophyll.
Explain the color change of a plant. (3)
- Chlorophyll is broken down
- Plant moves chlorophyll from leaves
- New chlorophyll is added
Two types of sectional views of an object (2)
- longitudinal section [ ~ ]

Cuticle definition (2)
Wax layer, prevents water loss
Upper epidermis definition (1)
Protects plant cell inside
Lower, epidermis definition (1)
Protect plant cell inside
Palisade cells definition (1)
Photosynthesis
Spongy cells definition (2)
Photosynthesis
Contain inter cellular air spaces
Intercellular air spaces definition (1)
Allows gases to move between cells
Stomata definition (4)
Allows movement of gases between leaf and atmosphere.
(Oxygen in) (carbon dioxide out) (water vapor in)
Vain definition (2)
Transport nutrients, and water
