Photosynthesis Flashcards
Word equation for photosynthesis
Light new= light originalx distance original² ÷ distance new ²
How are products produced in photosynthesis used by plants
The glucose produced in photosynthesis is used for energy
Why is photosynthesis an endothermic reactionary
Photosynthesis can’t happen without energy from the sun
How are leaves adapted for photosynthesis
The leaves have a large surfsce area so they can absorb maximum sunlight and openings called stomata to let the carbon dioxide in and the oxygen out
Describe temperature on the rate of photosynthesis
As temperature increases so does photosynthesis. If the temperature is too hot the enzymes responsible for photosynthesis become denatured and the reaction stopped
Describe the effect of light intensity on photosynthesis
As light intensity increases so does photosynthesis.
As light intensity increases to a point photosynthesis stops increasing as there is another limiting factor such as temperature or carbon dioxide
Describe how carbon dioxide effects photosynthesis
As carbon dioxide increases so does photosynthesis
As co² increases to a certain point photosynthesis no longer increases as there is another limiting factor
How are hair cells adapted to their function in plants
They increase the plants surface area allowing the plant to absorb more active transport of minerals and water
How does water flow from the soil into the cytoplasm of root hair cells?
The water flows from the soil to the cytoplasm of root hair cells by osmosis
What is transpiration
The loss of water vapour through the stomata
What moves water and minerals around the plant?
The xylem transports water and minerals from the soil around the plant
3 factors that limit transpiration
Humidity
Temperature
Wind
How could a student investigate the effect of wind on transpiration
A student may use a fan to measure the amount of transpiration on different wind speeds . In theory the rate of transpiration should increase as the wind gets faster
How is the xylem adapted for its function
They lose their end walls so the xylem forms a continuous, hollow tube. They become strengthened by a substance called lignin . Lignin gives strength and support to the plant.
