- They can be uni-cellular or multi-cellular organisms
- They live underwater
- Algae do not have leaves stems or roots

Water diffuses into the root hair cells
Hairs provide a large surface area to maximise diffusion

On the underside there are tiny holes
Allows gases to diffuse into leaf
