Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the formula of photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + Water light energy/Chlorophyll ➡️ glucose + oxygen
How does carbon dioxide go into and comes from ?
It comes from the air and enters through the leaves into the stomata
How does water go into and comes from ?
From the soil into the the roots
What happens to glucose in the plant?
Made in the leaves and travels up and down the cells
What happens to oxygen in the plant?
From the leaves through the stomata
What is the top layer of a leaf?
Waxy cuticles
What is the second layer of a leaf?
Upper epidermis
What is the third layer of a leaf?
Chloroplast
What is the fourth layer of a leaf?
Vacuole
What is the fifth layer of a leaf?
Palisade layer
What is the p
Sixth layer of a leaf?
Cell wall
What is the seventh layer of a leaf?
Spongy layer
What is the eighth layer of a leaf?
Lowe epidermis
What at the bottom of a leaf?
Guard cells
What in the centre of the leaf?
Air space
What was the result the nail varnish practical?
There were many more stomata present on the under side of the leaf
How do leaves adapt for quicker CO2 diffusion
-have lots of stomata
-the leaves are thin for a shirt diffusion pathway
- the leaves have a large surface area to allow for quicker diffusion
What happens when plants leave to much water?
Wilts
What do guards cells do?
Open and close to control the water Vapor
Cytoplasm
Where chemical reactions occur
Nucleus
Contains the DNA that controls the cell
Cell wall
Contains cellulose for strength and support
Vacuole
Contains cell sap for support
Cell membrane
Controls what’s going in and out of the cell
Chloroplast
Contains chlorophyll to trap the light
Is the site of photosynthesis
What experiment can we do to show a leave is photosynthesising?
-boil the leaf to remove the waxy layer by killing cells
-place leaf in ethanol to extract chlorophyll
-rinse the leaf to remove ethanol
-test for starch using iodine solution
