Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is chlorophyll?
The pigment found in chloroplasts
What is the role of chlorophyll?
Absorbing light energy
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Cardon Dioxide + Water –> Oxygen + Glucose
What is the number equation for photosynthesis?
6CO2+6H2O → C6H12O6+6O2
What does photosynthesis do?
It absorbs light energy, making it an endothermic reaction
Is photosynthesis exothermic or endothermic?
Endothermic reaction
What do plants need glucose for?
-Respiration -> makes energy
-Making cellulose
-Making proteins
-Storing in seeds as fat
-Storing in roots are starch
Why do plants store their glucose as starch?
-Glucose and simple sugars are soluble, meaning they can dissolve in water. They can be lost from cells in roots via diffusion from soil. Starch is not soluble.
How can we test if a plant has been photosynthesising?
We can use the Iodine reagent to check if a plant has been photosynthesising for starch
Where is starch stored?
In the root
