Photosynthesis Flashcards
Photosynthesis
The process that plants use to produce food from light
Heterotoph
A living thing that can’t make it’s own food
Autotoph
A living thing that can make it’s own food
How photosynthesis happens
CO2 enters the leaf through microscopic pores (stomata)
Water enters the plant through the roots, travelling up the leaves via the stem.
The chloroplast in plant cells contain a green pigment called chlorophyll, which absorbs energy from sunlight.
In the chloroplast, water, CO2 and energy react to produce glucose + oxygen
Photosynthesis formula
light
Water + Carbon dioxide ————–>glucose + oxygen
chlorophyll
Chlorophyll
Green pigment found in plant chloroplast that allows plant to absorb energy from sunlight
Stoma defintion
Microscopic pore in a plant leaf that controls gas exchange
Biological process
A process that is essential for life
Chemical process
A process that forms/ breaks chemical bonds
factors of photosynthesis
Sunlight
Availability of chlorophyll
Availability of CO(sub2)
Availability of water
Temperature
Carbon Cycle
The collection of pathways in which carbon is stored/ recycled in the environment
