Photosynthesis Flashcards
What form of photosynthesis do most plants use?
C3 photosynthesis.
Which enzyme catalyses the reaction of C3 photosynthesis?
Ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase (rubisco)
Why do plants in hot, arid environments use C4 photosynthesis?
When plants close their stomata in arid conditions, oxygen competes more successfully with CO2 for rubisco, which reduces the efficiency of photosynthesis.
What are the two basic steps of photosynthesis?
Light Dependent & Independent Reactions.
What is the Light-Dependent Reaction?
Chlorophyll absorbs light energy, transferring some of it to create ATP and reduced NADP, using photolysis.
What is given off as a waste product of the Light-Dependent reaction
Oxygen
What is the Light-Independent Reaction?
ATP and Reduced NADP are involved in using CO2 to create a carbohydrate.
