Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H2O+ light energy —> C6H12O6 + 6O2
What makes up the mass of a tree?
Air makes up the mass of a tree.
The light dependent part of photosynthesis happens in the ? And what is the reactants and products?
Light dependent reactions take place in the thylakoid membrane .
H2O + light energy —> oxygen, ATP, and NADPH
Why is a plant green?
A plant is green because it reflect the pigment green while it absorbs many other colors.
Pigments
Use chlorophyll a and b (accessory pigments)
What happens to to electrons when they get hit with a photon of light?
The electrons start at the ground state and get hit by a photon of light which makes the excited and then are transferred to a series of molecules.
What happens in the noncyclic pathway?
- electrons move to the receptor ( replaced with electrons from water and causes oxygen to be released)
- goes to electron transport chain and ATP synthase
- electron moves to receptor (replaced with one from photosytem II
What happens in the cyclic pathways ?
- electron moves to receptor
- electron transport chain and ATP synthase
- electrons at the end of chain goes back to pigment molecules to replace the one that was lost
What happens during light independent reactions?
CO2, ATP, NADPH —-> Goes to GLUCOSE
- Produces (G3P)
CALVIN CYCLE - huge amount of energy
- G3P is produces
