Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is photosynthesis
The process in which plants make carbohydrate as food using light energy
What is the equation of photosynthesis
Carbon Dioxide+ Water with the presence of chlorophyll and light energy= Glucose+ Oxygen
How does Carbon Dioxide enter the leaf
Carbon Dioxide diffuses from the atmosphere into the leaf through the stomata
How does water enter the leaf
Water is take in by the roots from the soil and travel up the stem and into the leaf through the xylem
What is Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is the main pigment that absorbs light. It is found in a cell structure called the chloroplast. Chlorophyll gives the green colour of the leaf.
What is the carbohydrate
The carbohydrate made is glucose but is stored as starch. The carbohydrate is transported to different parts of the plant as sucrose through phloem
What is oxygen
Oxygen is the by-product and it diffuses out of the leaf through the stomata
How do you investigate that light is needed for photosynthesis

What is a variegated leaf
A leaf with different colour zones (White and green)
What does Glucose contain
Carbon,Nitrogen and Oxygen
How are minerals recycled
When an animal that has eaten the plants dies, they are decomposed. Returning the minerals to the soil
What are the main minerals
Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium
