Photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

Explain the process of a light-dependent reaction

A

sunlight is absorbed into chloroplasts, exciting electrons. Water molecules bind and enzymes break water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The excited electrons travel across the membrane. Another enzyme pumps H ions across the membrane. ATP synthase and uses potential energy to create ATP.

Q

Explain the process of the light-independent reaction

A

Products from light-dependent reaction produce carbohydrates from carbon dioxide. the enzyme RuBisCo fixes carbon dioxide to protein RuBP. Carbon dioxide is released as water, thus reaction begins
