Photosyntesis Flashcards
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + water = glucose + water
What else is needed apart from CO2 and water for photosynthesis?
Light energy and chlorophyll
How is light energy absorbed?
Through chlorophyll, which is founds in chloroplasts
Where is carbon dioxide and water found?
Carbon dioxide - in the air
Water - in the soil
What could the rate of photosynthesis be limited by?
1) shortage of light
2) low temperatures
3) shortage of carbon dioxide
What could the glucose be converted into?
Insoluble starch for storage
What is glucose used for in plants and algae?
1) to produce fat or oil for storage
2) to produce cellulose, which strengthens the cell wall
3) to produce proteins (for this plants also need nitrate ions absorbed from the soil)
