Photosnythesis Flashcards

1
Q

Light Dependent - Photosynthesis

A
  1. Sunlight is absorbed by chlorophyll in the thylakoid membrane and loses an electron which causes water to split into oxygen gas and hydrogen ions
  2. Electrons are transferred to the electron transport chain where NADP+ is loaded with H+ ions to become NADPH
  3. H+ ions cross from the lumen to the stroma (where the next stage takes place) via ATP
synthase which catalyses the formation of ATP from ADP and Pi

Q

Light Independent Stage -Photosynthesis

A
  1. Rubisco fixes carbon dioxide (taken in via stomata) to RuBP in the first step of the Calvin cycle
  2. Several steps involving ATP and NADPH as coenzymes build glucose from carbon dioxide
