Photosnythesis Flashcards
1
Q
Light Dependent - Photosynthesis
A
- Sunlight is absorbed by chlorophyll in the thylakoid membrane and loses an electron which causes water to split into oxygen gas and hydrogen ions
- Electrons are transferred to the electron transport chain where NADP+ is loaded with H+ ions to become NADPH
- H+ ions cross from the lumen to the stroma (where the next stage takes place) via ATP
synthase which catalyses the formation of ATP from ADP and Pi
2
Q
Light Independent Stage -Photosynthesis
A
- Rubisco fixes carbon dioxide (taken in via stomata) to RuBP in the first step of the Calvin cycle
- Several steps involving ATP and NADPH as coenzymes build glucose from carbon dioxide
3
Q
Overall Photosynthesis Equation
A
water + carbon dioxide → oxygen + glucose + water
