Photoelectric Effect & Work Functions Flashcards
1
Q
Equation for kinetic energy of ejected electron
A
KE = Ephoton - work function
Ephoton = hv
2
Q
True or false: number of electrons ejected = number of photons ejected
A
True
3
Q
What is threshold frequency?
A
The minimum light frequency that will cause electrons to be ejected.
- From there, if you increase the intensity of the light, this will increase the number o electrons that will leave the surface
- But, if you don’t pass the threshold frequency, increasing the intensity will have no effect on the ejection of electrons
4
Q
De Broglie wave function
A
λ = h/mv
5
Q
Equation to calculate threshold frequency (in formula sheet, just need to do algebra)
A
λ = hc/Φ
