photo+cel res Flashcards
what are two types of reactions in photosynthesis
light dependent reaction, light independent reaction
Light dependent reaction
occurs in thylakoids, is what takes energy from sun & converts it to electron carriers/energy plants can use.
light independent reaction
occurs in the stroma/calvin cycle, converts energy from electron carriers into storage sugars.
light dependent reaction uses h20 & sunlight along with ATp to
move energy out of thylakoids & into stroma
light dependeant reaction is done through
electron carriers like NADPH
in light dependent, sunlgiht makes electrons in
chlorophyll very excited
in light dependent, excited electrons move an extra electron (H+) from
h20 and add to molecule called NADP+
the NADPH carries…
the very excited high energy electrons out of the thylakoids & into the stroma.
NADPH can be used in…
making sugars by powering light independent reaction in stroma
process of photosynthesis is?
a chemical reaction, most important one
all of life is
dependent on the sun for energy
what do plants need in photo
sunlight, carbon dioxide, water, chlorophll
What is the equation for the chemical reaction of photosynthesis?
6CO2+6H2O –> C6H12O6+6O2
photosynthesis:
The process of changing light energy to chemical energy
Glucose/sugars
C6H12O6
photo is energy stored as:
sugar
photo occurs in:
plants & most algae
in photo, plats need
light energy, CO2, H2O
where does photo take place?
in chloroplast using chlorophyll
the calvin cycle uses energy from
ATP & NADPH from the light dependent reaction to produce high-energy sugars (food)
calvin cycle is light dependent or light independent?
light independent
in calvin cycle, energy is carried into
stroma in form of NADPH
in calvin cycle, the energy in form of NADPH is used to convert
CO2 from atmosphere into sugars (C6H12O6) to be used to the help the plant/algae grow
light dependent reaction:
6H20 & 6O2
