phosphorus cycle Flashcards
describe the phosphorus cycle
-phospahte ions are released into the soil by eroding on rock(weathering)
-in the form of phospahte ions , theyre taken in through the roots of the plant
-phospahte ions are used to form DNA and ATP and are passed through food chain by feeding
-phospahte ions are present in the faeces , urine and dead organisms are released by saprobiotic microorganisms during decomposition
what is the relationship between fungi and and plants roots called
-mycorrhizae
-and this relationship is mutualistic or symbiotic
what does the fungi do and contain
-contains hyphae
-long thin strands which connect with the plant roots and extend into the soil to increase the surface area for absorption of water and ions such as phospahte
what does the fungi get in return
-fungi receive organic compounds such as glucose produced by the plant during photosynthesis
