Cooing Stage

Short vowel-like sounds usually preceded by a consonant sound towards back of the mouth.
Can laugh at this point.
Vocal Play
20-30 Weeks
Experiment with pitch, volume and vowel sounds.
Babbling
30-50 Weeks
Understand gesture and body language
Are able to imitate noises
Melodic Utterances
Children pick up melody, rhythm and intonation of their mother tongue.
Holophrastic Stage
12-18 Months
Children have made their first 50 words
60% of first words are nouns.
Two-Word Stage
18 Months
Two word utterances
Grammar begins to emerge and its usually syntactically correct
Telegraphic Stage
2-3 years
Children begin to form longer sentences however will still omiss:
-Determiners
-Primary Auxiliary Verbs
-Verb endings
-Conjunctions
-Prepositions

What is deletion?
Sometimes children will delete the last sound and maybe swap others around.
What is addition?
The repetition of particular sounds and structures.
E.g Dogg(ie)
What is reduplication?
The repetition of the whole syllable.
E.g. Choochoo
