Q

How does man know what he knows ?

A

Meyers believes a man knows what he knows by doing. Doing what?

OT use some:

  1. Purposeful activities
  2. Occupation: meaningful and purposeful human engagement
  3. Goal directed behavior

***Goal must be meaningful to the individual so that participation is active and voluntary

Through doing a man learns to adapt.

Q

What is desirable?

A

Meyers believes that quality of life comes from ones achieving

Mary Reilly- “ Man, through the use of hands as they are energized by mind and will, can influence the state of his own health.”

Goals of OT foster achieving and ultimately independent of performance.

Through achieving, improvement in the quality of life for those whose functional ability is impaired can be achieved
