Therapeutic Use of Occupations and Activities (Occupation-Based Interventions)
Client-centered intervention in which the OT Practitioner and client collaboratively select and design activities that have specific relevance or meaning to the client and support the clients interests, need, health, and participation in daily life
Purpose: client engages in client-directed occupations that match identified goals
Therapeutic use of Occupations and Acrivities (Purposeful Activity)
Goal-directed behavior or activity within a therapeutically designed context that leads to occupations
Purpose: client engages in specifically selected activities that allow client to develop skills that enhance occupational engagement

- Practices how to select clothing and manipulate clothing fasteners

Purpose: to prepare the client for occupational performance

- Provides sensory enrichment to promote alertness
- Administers physical agent modalities to prepare muscles for movement
- Engages in visual imagery and rhythmic breathing to promote rest and relaxation
- Issues orthotics/splints to provide support and facilitate movement
- Suggests a home-based conditioning regime using Pilates and yoga
- Provides hand-strengthening exercises using therapy putty and theta and
- Provides instruction in assertiveness to prepare for self-advocacy
Consultation Process
OT uses their knowledge and expertise to collaborate in identifying the problem, creating possible solutions, trying solutions, and altering them as necessary with “client”(patient, family, or others)

- serves on policy board of an organization to procure supportive housing accommodations for persons w disabilities
Population
- collaborated w/ adults w/ serious mental illness to raise public awareness of the impact of this stigma
