What causes pheochromocytoma (adrenal tumour)?
A
- Idiopathic
- Tumours from adrenal medulla (Chromaffin cells)
- can invade vena cava and release excessive levels of catecholamines
- causes hypertension
- cardiac arrhythmias
- palpable mass

What is the treatment?
A
- Adrenolectomy
- control hypertension with phenoxybezamine
- control cardiac arrhythmias with propranonol and atenolol and alpha and beta blockers

What are the complications associated with pheochromocytoma ?
A
Thrombocytopenia and hypertension
