What is a delusion
Belief that is firmly held - not affected by rational argument or evidence
3 types of paranoid delusions and definition
Persecutory - person or organisation ‘trying to harm’
Grandiose - Inflated self importance, celebrity, supernaturalness
Reference - objects/ events have special significance ‘when they talk about paedos on the TV I know they really mean me’
What is nihilistic
Belief that everything is neglected / absent
‘I have no bowels, they’ve been eaten away’
Eg of some types of delusion
Religious, hypochondriac, guilt, nihilistic, persecutory, grandiose, reference
What is an erotomantic delusion? Other name?
Delusion a man (usually of High social standing is in love with them
De clerambault syndrome
What is morbid jealousy delusion? Other name? Risk?
Convinced partner is unfaithful
Othello syndrome
High risk of violence
What is it called when a person is convinced a friend/ relative is replaced with an imposter? Syndrome name?

Stimulation -> hallucination
Eg ‘ I can feel you writing on my stomach’

Experienced outside of sensory field
Eg behind / there’s people talking about me miles away

What is thought alienation
Thoughts are being interfered with in some way
-Broadcast, insertion, withdrawal
It is recognised that they’re unfamiliar

Lack of abstract

Slow random but goal directed thinking
What is loosening of association? What does it lead to?
Lack of logical association between thoughts
-> incoherent speech
What is confabulation
Giving a false account to fill in a gap of memory
What is perseveration?
Repetition of word/theme/action beyond point of relevance
What is flight of ideas
Rapid skipping from one thought to distantly related ideas
What is pressure of speech ?
Rapid rate of delivery, lots of associations which may be unusual Eg rhymes / puns
- often wanders off point of original conversation
What is anhedonia
Unable to experience pleasure from activities previously found enjoyable
