PHC CH 7.7 Flashcards
Five types of sensory receptors
- Chemoreceptors
- Mechanoreceptors
- Photoreceptors
- Thermoreceptors
- Nociceptors
Mucous membranes that covers the front of the eye and provides additional protection and lubrication
Conjuctiva
The outermost layer of eye; white of the eye
Sclera
Iris
Colored part of the eye; muscle
Circular, transparent part of the front of the sclera. Allows light rays to enter the eye.
Cornea
Interlaced with blood vessels and nourishes the eyes; middle layer
Choroid coat
Innermost layer of the eye.
Retina
Opening center of the iris
Pupil
Clear, water fluid that fills space between cornea and iris
Aqueous humor
Fills area behind the lens
Vitreous humor
Paraplegia
Paralysis of lower extremities
Quadriplegia
Paralysis of all extremeties
Lazy eye
Amblyopia
Lena become cloudy and opaque
Cataracts
Pink eye
Conjunctivitis
Glaucoma
Increased pressure caused by excess amount of aqueous humor
Major cause of vision loss and blindness
Macular degeneration
Eyes do not move or focus together
Strabismus
Pina or auricle
Cartilage covered by skin. Leads to auditory canal
Cerumen
Earwax
Ossicles
Malleus, incus, and stapes
Middle ear is connected to pharynx by a tube that allows air to enter the middle ear and helps equalize air pressure on both sides of tympanic membrane
Eustachian tibe
Otosclerosis
Inherited disease; bony overgrowth of the footplate of stapes
Salt and sweet
Tip of tongue
Sour
Side
Bitter
Back
General receptors
Pressure, heat, cold, touch, and pain
