Define the phases of the moon
The phases of the moon is how much the moon appears to us on Earth to be lit up by the sun. The moon doesnt release any light.
Full moon
When the side of the moon facing Earth is completely lit up and we see this.
New moon
When none of it is lit up and we cant see the moon at all.
First & Third Quarter
When the side of the moon facing Earth is lit up by only a half.
Waxing
The visible moon seems to get bigger
Waning
The visible moon seems to get smaller and smaller
Crescent
When less than half of the moon is lit up.
Gibbous
When its more than a half of the moon is lit up.
Eclipse
An occasion when the sun disappears completely from view while the moon is moving between it and Earth.
Or when the moon becomes darker while the shadow of the Earth moves over it.
