Phase And Phase Diagram Flashcards
What is a phase?
A phase is any homogenous and physically distinct part of a system, bounded by a surface called a BOUNDARY.
What is a phase diagram?
A phase diagram is a graphical representation of the physical state of a substance under different temperatures and pressure.
What is triple point?
Triple point is a point on the phase diagram at which the boundary of the three phases meet and co-exist, occuring at a definite temperature and pressure.
What is a critical temperature?
This is the temperature at which a liquid interface disappears, above which a liquid does not exist and vapour cannot be liquified.
What is critical pressure?
Critical pressure is the pressure required to turn a gas back to liquid at its critical temperature.
What is critical point?
This is the point in temperature and pressure where the liquid and gaseous phase merge into a single phase.
What is the critical temperature of water?
647.096K
What is the critical pressure for water?
22900000pa, or 22.9Mpa, or 217.75atm
