Electrolysis Flashcards
1
Q
What is Faraday’s first law of electrolysis?
A
It states that the mass of a substance deposited during electrolysis is directly proportional to the quantity of electricity passing through the electrolyte.
2
Q
What is the formula when quantity of electricity isn’t constant (First Law Electrolysis)?
A
m = ZQ
m = (M/eF) × Q
e = coeff of electrons gained/lib
F = Faraday’s constant
3
Q
What is Faraday’s second law of electrolysis?
A
When the same quantity of electricity is passed through different electrolytic cells arranged in series, then the number of elements deposited in each cell is inversely proportional to the charges on the elements.
