continuing PhysEd, teaching mental and physical resilience

focus on the theory, and then put into practice, principles of Leadership and Command.

also begin learning about Air and Space power and defence writing (historical, theoretical and doctrinal studies) as facilitated by Portsmouth University Business School

sees a visit to RRC Crickhowell, PLE 1 and PLE2 and concluding with Ex. Eagles Edge

deployed to a ficticious country (Gorgas) under direction of UK joint force air component in support of Air Operations

cadets lead team through various excercises such as recon missions, support Host Nation forces etc.

the first two weeks consist of academic work and theory, before exercise Commanders edge

halfway through the term the course splits and rotates around three different disciplines for a week apiece

these include AirC2 in Air and Space environment, Line management responsibilities, and finally Care and Welfare in Leadership before

A

Command is the authority exercised lawfully over subordinates by virtue of rank, seniority and appointment while leadership brings moral insight and ‘the art of mission and people’ to the authority of command.

Basically one is the art of giving orders whilst the other is the art of giving orders whilst understanding the feelings and emotions of those recieving them

What is Excercise First Week? When does it Occur?

A

during the final week of the consol module

This is where Officer Cadets are tested on the Command, Leadership and Management skills that they have learned in the previous 18 weeks of the MIOTC. Cadets are formally tested across multiple environments that they can be expected to perform in during their future careers

a management simulator set at the fictional 222 Squadron based at RAF College Cranwell. Officer Cadets arrive at their new unit in the first week of their first job to discover that their Squadron Leader is away

In an overview, what does the CONSOL module involve?

A

split into the Consolidation and Transition/Graduation Phases

cadets are given the chance to demonstrate their learning through a range of practical and written activities

this includes Ex Astra Edge, Ex-First Week, a visit to RRC Grantown on Spey, and an academic assessment week

if cadets pass all the relevant assessments then they move onto a two-week transition phase which involves final checks for life as a serving officer, and brushing up on drill. before the graduation parade and the graduation ball.

CONSOL also includes Ultimate Challenge, a test of the physical and mental resilience of cadets.
